On the opposite corner to the purgatory here come the celestial troops.
Auf der gegenseitiger Ecke zu dem Fegefeuer kommen die Himmelsscharen.

They appeared from nothing and they were followed by a bird. I thought angels fly higher but perhaps these souls just arrived...
Sie tauchten vom Nichts auf und sie waren von einem Vogel begleitet. Ich dachte, Engeln fliegen höher, aber vielleicht diese Seelen sind erst im Himmel angekommen...

Or ist it the Holy Ghost?

In the Middle Ages they thought that the ocean ends on the horizon and the ship can fall out of the world.

Im Mittelalter dachte man, dass die Welt endete am Horizont und dass die Schiffe daraus fallen konnten.

They also thought that there were strange creatures and monsters there.

Sie dachten auch, dass es komische Wesen und Monster da gab.

Mine don't look threatening at all. I must go out and fetch the right ones!
